Overview
An integrated theoretical and practical course designed to train participants to recognize and manage the most important medical emergencies that can arise in the dental office. The curriculum covers core principles of diagnosis and immediate therapeutic conduct, alongside medico-legal considerations. The theoretical course focuses on how local anesthetics, vasoconstrictors, and anesthetic technique interact with systemic diseases and the patient’s medication. Participants learn about the management of presyncope and vasovagal syncope, hypertensive crises, angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction, while also adressing high-risk acute emergencies, including acute pulmonary edema, thyrotoxic crisis, hypoglycemic crises, seizures, panic attacks, acute asthma exacerbations and anaphylactic shock. The hands-on is mannequin-based and delivers step-by-step training in medical emergencies: upper airways relief, positioning the unconscious patient in the lateral recovery position, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, use of semi-automatic external defibrillator (AED), IV, IM and SC access and injection techniques.
