Christos Katsaros
A European Pillar of Orthodontics
Professor Katsaros stands at the helm of one of Europe’s most distinguished departments at the University of Bern. His academic pedigree is a tour of European excellence, beginning with his DDS in Thessaloniki, followed by a Doctorate and Habilitation at the University of Saarland, and a PhD from Göteborg University. Before his tenure in Switzerland, he served as Professor at Radboud University Nijmegen. His profound impact on dental education has been recognized with honorary doctorates (Dr. h.c.) from the “Carol Davila” University in Bucharest.
From Molecular Biology to Clinical Stability
With an impressive portfolio of over 200 publications, Prof. Katsaros is a titan in dental research. His work spans the entire spectrum of the discipline: investigating the molecular mechanisms of facial development and wound healing in Cleft Lip and Palate (CLP) models, while addressing critical daily challenges such as gingival recession and orthodontic retention. He seamlessly connects complex biological processes with practical, long-term treatment stability.
Leading the Global Scientific Dialogue
As a Past President of the European Orthodontic Society (EOS) and Active Member of the Angle Society of Europe, his influence shapes the profession. Serving as Associate Editor for the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics since 2015, he stewards the scientific literature. In 2022, his lifetime of contribution was immortalized with the Sheldon Friel Memorial Lecture, the highest honor bestowed by the EOS.
